Hand tool pro and Popular Woodworking editor Christopher Schwarz is planning a party to build his own coffin. Foresightful of him! He wrote a blog post about it recently.
Word on the street is that they’ll use kerf-bending to make the sides of the coffin. Here at Piedmont Pine Coffins, we plan to develop a coffin model for sale made from cypress wood with kerf-bent sides. Can’t wait to see the video from this event.
The book mentioned as a resource in Schwarz’s post is Paul Hasluck’s turn of the century manual on coffin making and undertaking. I wrote about that book for this blog last year. That page — about “toe-pincher” coffins — is among the most-visited on the Piedmont Pine Coffins website.
